“We also take our responsibility towards Gozo's incredible architectural inheritance and natural beauty very seriously. So, we employ highly skilled local craftsmen who use traditional skills and methods when restoring or rebuilding our properties. We were one of the first companies to recycle rainwater and take energy-saving measures in our properties. We want to leave a lasting legacy on the island as our forefathers did before us.”

KEEPING GOZO'S CHARM UNSPOILED

Visitors love Gozo's unspoilt beauty. This tiny island is loved for its traditional, slow pace of life, its rustic scenery, and its secluded bays and beaches. It also has a fascinating ancient heritage including the Neolithic Ġgantija temples (a UNESCO World Heritage site).

The Baron Group is committed to safeguarding Gozo’s architectural and cultural heritage and not just by sensitively restoring traditional properties. We were proud to be actively involved in the restoration of another of Gozo’s ancient treasures – the fortified city of the medieval Cittadella in Gozo’s capital Victoria.

CHANGES TO THE MALTA/GOZO HOLIDAY MARKET

Over the past 20 years or so tourists have increasingly started to prefer booking a private, self-catering villa on Gozo rather than staying in a hotel.

A holiday in a beautifully restored old house in the countryside near the old villages, provides an opportunity for our guests to experience the genuine culture and village life on Gozo.

We predict this trend will continue as we restore more properties on Gozo and offer a full range of 5-star amenities, plus additional in-house services.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Gozo's biggest market is holidaymakers from the UK, but Baron Holiday Homes is also seeing an increase in tourists coming from many other European countries such as Germany, France, Poland, Italy, and further afield.

In terms of the non-European market, Baron Holiday Homes also caters for guests from the USA, the Middle East, New Zealand and Australia!

THE NEXT 20 YEARS – FUTURE PLANS

Mr Tabone says that the Baron Group will continue to identify and develop properties on Gozo and to promote the island as a unique holiday destination.

“Malta has good connectivity with all of Europe but we've found that discerning 5* clients want more connectivity between the Maltese Islands themselves.

“The Maltese government has considered developing a small airport on Gozo, but this is likely to be low key project, with limited environmental impact. More recently there is a proposal for a tunnel linking the main island of Malta with Gozo.”
