Baron Holiday Homes

It’s that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, the sun has gone into hiding, the air is getting chillier, and your thoughts start turning to escaping the worst of the coming winter.

If you’re not into skiing, or don’t fancy a long haul flight to the tropics, we have a suggestion for you… Why not give our gorgeous island of Gozo a try?

Winter temperatures on Gozo are reliably mild, averaging between 12 and 15°C between November to the end of February. And it’s usually much drier too, with lots of blue skies and sunshine – perfect for hiking, cycling and generally being out and about.

You can explore Gozo’s stunning coastline as well as our amazing cultural heritage without getting too hot and bothered – and without the summer crowds. There are always lots of things to do on Gozo, even in winter, including our Carnival week in February. And if you’re looking for a more relaxing holiday we can help you find a relaxing massage or yoga class.

Last, but not least, don’t forget that many of our Baron Holiday Homes provide everything you need for a cosy winter break on Gozo – from underfloor heating and real fires to heated pools and jacuzzis.

Winter is a great time to get out and about on Gozo. One of the easiest ways of exploring our lovely island home is on foot. From The Citadel to our splendid churches – there’s so much to see.

There are plenty of safe pathways to explore. And you can even try some of the 50km Gozo Coastal Walk which includes routes through towns, small country roads and some cross-country sections.

For some inspiration, why not browse the Things To See In Gozo page on our website which lists some of Gozo’s ‘must-sees’ from our fascinating cultural heritage sites to our spectacular coastline.

We also provide a few sample walking routes on Gozo in our blog post Get Out and Walk. You could also try our walking itinerary in Gozo’s Capital Victoria which takes in the Citadel, Gozo Cathedral and people watching in the main Independence Square.

Mountain bike enthusiasts will also get a kick out of Gozo’s numerous coastal and country paths. Gozo provides a network of safe roads and paths – and you’re never too far from a beach or a cafe. One of the Baron team is a keen cyclist and he devised three fun mountain bikes routes on Gozo for others to explore

Join the Carnival

Now that the Covid pandemic restrictions have been lifted, February will once again be the time for some proper fun and mischief on Gozo as the Carnival returns. We’re delighted to report that Carnival Week will run from Friday 17 to Tuesday 21 February 2023.

Here’s a short clip of what to expect...

For five days the streets of our capital Victoria will be the backdrop for colourful floats, amazing costumes, dancing, marching bands and lots more.

And for something completely different we recommend a visit the village of Nadur to experience the unique Spontaneous Carnival which takes place in the evenings. Here you’ll see people wearing grotesque masks and weird costumes as this event is all about disguise.

You can find out more about both carnivals in our blog post Let Gozo’s Carnival Season Blow Away Your Winter Blues. The post also includes some top tips from one of the Baron Holiday Home’s team.
