Regular visitors to Malta and Gozo will be aware that the national airline Air Malta has been undergoing some changes. The good news is that although the airline in its current form will cease operations on 30 March 2024, a new airline KM Malta Airlines will start flying the very next day – 31 March 2024.

This announcement has prompted us to take a look at the flight options for customers wishing to holiday on Gozo in 2024 and provide an update for our guests. And with new Malta routes launched by budget airlines Ryanair and easyjet for 2024, there are plenty of options for European travellers looking to visit Gozo this summer.

New KM Malta Airlines Service

We understand that customers wishing to fly to Malta can continue to book tickets as normal and Air Malta will honour all tickets for flights up to 30 of March 2024.

This will be useful to travellers wishing to take advantage of the amazing government-backed promotion that is currently offering 30% off on Gozo accommodation booked in the off-peak period autumn/winter 2023-2024. The promotion ends mid-March 2024 and as an accommodation provider participating in the scheme we’d love to welcome guests for an extended off-peak stay.  For more details read this.

Customers who have already booked flights with the Air Malta directly for 31 March and beyond have been fully reimbursed. Those customers who booked flights through third parties will receive refunds via their travel agents. The airline has published some FAQs to help customers who may be eligible for a refund to understand their rights.

The new flag carrier is KM Malta Airlines and from 11 December customers will be able to book flights to and from Malta on the new website and booking platform. The airline will use the same planes and the KM Malta Airlines brand. So you won’t notice any immediate big difference.

We also understand that the new airline will operate 284 weekly flights across a slimmed-down roster of 17 routes, focusing on key European destinations. There will be 82 weekly flights to Italy, 48 to France, 44 to the UK and 40 to Germany.

The new summer 2024 schedule will operate from 31 March to 26 October 2024, serving 17 airports across 15 European cities. These are: Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Catania, Dusseldorf, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Lyon, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Prague, Rome, Vienna and Zurich.

Air Malta will no longer serve Palermo, Naples, Nice, Geneva, Lisbon, and Tel Aviv but a possible new route to Copenhagen is being considered.
