If grey skies and chilly winter weather have got you thinking of your next summer holiday – we’ve got some good news. Many European airlines have announced extra flights to Malta for summer 2018, which means that from the Faroe Islands to Southend on Sea, it’s now easier than ever to plan a holiday on our beautiful island of Gozo.
Just think – Gozo’s relaxing beaches, fascinating heritage, sparkling Mediterranean sea, friendly people, and delicious food and wine is even more accessible from the UK and many European cities.
In this blog post we provide a round-up of the new flights to Malta that are available in 2018.
Air Malta’s summer 2018 schedule

Air Malta already operates the most frequent schedule of flights to and from Malta and has recently announced that it will be offering an additional five European routes during summer 2018.
From 26 March 2018, Air Malta will start operating a new twice weekly (Monday and Friday) scheduled service to the Spanish city of Malaga – a brand new destination for the airline.
Air Malta is also reviving several routes including:
– a x2/week service to Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon, from 25 March 2018.
– a x3/week service to Venice, Italy, from 26 March 2018.
– a weekly service to St Petersburg, Russia, from 30 March, 2018.
– a weekly service to Sweden’s Stockholm (Arlanda) from 1 May 2018.
The Malta- Manchester service has been resumed as a weekly flight (Tuesdays) from 1 May 2018 – good news for UK passengers living in the north-west region.
Ryanair expands its Malta summer schedule
And there’s more good news for European passengers looking for flights to Malta in summer 2018 as Ryanair has expanded its schedule with 12 new routes, including three new summer services. This means that Ryanair will be operating 54 Malta routes to 18 countries this coming summer.
The new Ryanair routes from Malta are:
– a x2/week service to Aberdeen, Scotland, from 25 March 2018.
– a x4/week service to Barcelona, Spain, from 25 March 2018.
– a x2/week service to Bratislava, Slovakia, from 25 March 2018.
– a x2/week service to Porto, Portugal, from 26 March 2018.
– a x2/week service to Paris Beauvais, France, from 27 March 2018.
– a x2/week service to Pescara, Italy, from 27 March 2018.
– a x2/week service to Seville, Spain, from 28 March 2018.
– a x1/week service to Tallinn, Estonia, from 29 March 2018.
– a x1/week service to Gothenburg, Sweden, from 31 March 2018.
In addition, three routes have been converted to operate year-round:
– a x2/week service to Belfast, Northern Ireland.
– a x2/week service to Naples, Italy.
– a x2/week service to Riga, Latvia.
And the Malta – Venice Treviso route will increase to a x4/week summer service in 2018.

New Easyjet route from Southend Airport
In October 2018, budget airline Easyjet added a new all-year, twice-weekly route to Malta flying direct from London Southend Airport. The new route will serve passengers living in East Anglia and south east England and expands the airline’s existing UK-Malta flights from London Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle.
Easyjet also flies directly from Geneva (Switzerland), and from Milan Malpensa and Naples (Italy).
New Jet2 route from London Stansted Airport
Low cost airline Jet2 has also announced it is adding a new twice-weekly route to Malta from London Stansted for summer 2018.
Atlantic Airways adds new summer routes to Malta
Passengers from Denmark will also have more travel options this summer as Faroe Islands-based Atlantic Airways have announced five new round-trip, non-stop flights to Malta from Vagar Airport for summer 2018 between June and August.
Getting to Gozo
Visitors to Gozo must take the 25-minute ferry crossing from Cirkewwa in Malta to Mgarr Harbour on Gozo, as the island does not have an airport. Fortunately, The Gozo Channel Ferry operates a frequent schedule throughout the day.
