Gozo nightlife to keep young people dancing

Posted on 08 June 2017

Gozo is a great place for a family holiday with plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied (see our blog post How to have fun and stay fit on your Gozo holiday). But if you have older teenagers or young adults in your party then they might still have energy to burn at the end of the day – even after some strenuous rock climbing or cycling. Chances are they will want to go somewhere to listen to music, dance, and meet others of their own age.
So… we thought we’d take a look at the options for clubbing and nightlife on Gozo. This blog post aims to provide some ideas and suggestions that might appeal to young people on holiday on Gozo this summer.
The main centres for nightlife and clubbing on Gozo are Marsalforn, Xlendi, Xhagra, and Qala. It’s worth keeping in mind that the legal drinking age on the Maltese islands is 17 and young people may well be asked for their ID when purchasing alcohol.

Marsalforn

Located on a pretty bay with a vibrant waterfront full of restaurants and bars, Marsalforn on the north east side of Gozo is probably the island’s most popular location for nightlife.

The Glassbox Bar in the centre of Marsalforn is known as a great live music venue and holds regular Open Mic nights – which might be of interest if you have a budding performer in your holiday party! In the summer months, live music is played at the bar every Wednesday and Sunday evening.

Other options in Marsalforn are Dive Bar & Piutrentanove Lounge Bar which are both popular with local teenagers on week nights.

If you’re staying with Baron Holiday Homes in Marsalforn – perhaps at one of our Hillock Residences – then it’s just a short walk into the centre of the village.

Xlendi

The most popular nightspot in this area is Club Paradiso/ Zuma Terrace – a small bar and nightclub that features live music and dancing throughout the week.

Only open in the summer, La Grotta, situated on the road between Victoria and the lovely Xlendi Bay, is considered to be one of Europe’s finest outdoor clubs and offers a unique experience. In 2017, its opening night was held on Saturday 27th May.

If you’re lucky enough to be staying in our new villa Wied Sara Holiday Home in Victoria, La Grotta is easily reached.

Qala

For young people looking for a more chilled out vibe, then Zeppi’s Pub in Qala is ideal. It is a tiny bar but more often than not has live music and has a laid-back atmosphere.

Our properties Ta Kristoff and Hanini are located close to Qala.

Sunscape Festival

If you are holidaying with us on Gozo in early July then the young people in your group will be very interested in the Sunscape Festival, which will be held from 7 – 9 July 2017 at Ramla Bay.

Three days and nights of partying on the beach are promised in one of Europe’s most intimate island festivals, with around 60 acts performing on three stages over the weekend. As well as fabulous music, there will be art installations, yoga workshops, slacklining, and many other mind/body activities designed to inspire creativity.

The Travellers – Gozo’s most famous band

The Travellers – a Gozitan band that has taken the Maltese airwaves by storm

For a small island, Gozo has a thriving local music scene and is very proud of the latest local band, The Travellers, who have gained a big following. Founded in 2013, The Travellers comprise six young Gozitans who play a mix of contemporary music incorporating Maltese lyrics.

Their debut single Sempliċità was launched in 2016 and topped the local Maltese chart, and they followed this up with a successful debut EP. They are beginning to tour at venues around Europe but their songs will be played in bars and clubs around Gozo. The band will have several gigs around the Maltese islands during summer, including Gozo.
