Our guide to make the most of your day in Gozo’s capital Victoria

Most visitors to Gozo will pass through the island’s capital city at some point, after all, “all roads lead to Victoria” as we like to say on Gozo. You may also hear Gozitans refer to the capital as Rabat – which was the name of the town before it was renamed Victoria and became a city in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

But don’t just pass through – we strongly recommend that if you’re booking a holiday on Gozo and planning your itinerary, then a day in our capital city should be on your list of things to do.

Plunge into Gozo’s gorgeous sea for an exciting dive

The sea surrounding Gozo is crystal clear and varies in temperature from around 13-15°C in winter up to 28°C in the hot summer months, making it possible to enjoy scuba diving here practically all year round. Couple that with a fabulous array of caves, tunnels, reefs, and wrecks to explore and colourful marine life to admire, you can see why Gozo regularly ranks among the top three best dive sites in the world, and has some of the best dive sites in the Mediterranean.

Bask in sunshine and culture on Gozo this autumn

An autumn holiday on Gozo has many attractions. The island’s hot summer eases gently into a period of wonderfully warm and sunny weather and there are fewer tourists. With average maximum temperatures in September, October and November of 24°C, 21°C , and 17°C respectively, it’s still possible to enjoy swimming in the sea and dining al fresco at the island’s many restaurants.
