From May to September villages on Gozo take turns to celebrate their patron saints with joyful festas that combine music parades, religious services, food and fireworks. Our blog post Time to Celebrate! outlines what you can expect at festa time. We definitely recommend you attend at least one to get an insight into our traditional way of life.
And music lovers are well catered for during the summer on Gozo. From classical recitals to live rock and pop concerts and DJ sets, there’s an incredible 7-day a week calendar of events to choose from.
On Gozo there are no gatherings without some delicious local food, wine and beer! And for anyone interested in finding out more there are some great food events where you can sample some of the best of our sensational local produce.

Village Festas

For Gozitans, summer means village festas. This is where tradition, religion, music, fun and food all combine to create joyful celebrations throughout the island. Each village has a patron saint that is honoured during their festa and villages compete to see who has the best festa! To 10 July Victoria International Arts Festival
A major highlight of Gozo’s summer cultural calendar which runs throughout June and into July. Comprising a lively programme of concerts and recitals in venues all across Gozo, the festival closes on 10 July with a special performance at St George’s Basilica in Victoria by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
9 August Leone Band in Concert, 9.00pm Victoria
This annual concert of classical and modern symphonic music is extra special this year as it marked the 163rd anniversary of the founding of the Leonie Band in Gozo.
Rock & Pop Music

2 September Traditional farming demonstrations, Kerċem
An opportunity to see farm machinery from the past in use and to enjoy delicious ftira and live music, plus fireworks.
15 –17 September Qala International Folk Festival

Featuring a mechanical replica of London’s famous Tower Bridge, this promises to be a spectacular evening of pyrotechnics and music.

Food and Wine
Regular visitors to Gozo will know that food is hugely important in Gozo’s culture. And during the summer months there are a few special events specifically devoted entire to celebrating the best of Gozo’s local produce and cuisine, aswell as locally-produced wines. There will also be local musicians providing live entertainment, and often the evening ends with a fireworks display.
